The occupied Jerusalem – A report summarizing Israeli violations in the Holy City indicates that the occupation authorities killed 5 Palestinians and detained 163 others in the governorate during last January.

The report, issued by the Jerusalem Governorate, the highest official representation of the city, mentioned that among the five martyrs is a 4-year-old girl whose body was held for 9 days.

It noted the continued detention of the bodies of Muhammad Abu Eid and his wife Dahiya Abu Eid, who were martyred on January 7, bringing the total number of detained bodies in Jerusalem to 37 by the end of last month.

The report also highlighted the presence of 14 children among the 163 detainees from various areas of the governorate.

It pointed out the issuance of 39 actual prison sentences against Jerusalemite prisoners, including 31 administrative detention orders, which allow for several months of detention without charge, indictment, or a time limit.

Regarding the house arrest policy, the Jerusalem report documented 13 decisions issued by the occupation authorities. This form of detention is imposed by military orders, mandating the forced confinement of individuals in their homes for specific periods.

The report also discussed 6 expulsion decisions from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City, and Bab al-Amud in Jerusalem, pointing out the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque with the participation of 3405 settlers.

Attempts to Impose Sovereignty

The Jerusalem report also emphasized the continuation of Israeli attempts “to impose sovereignty on Jerusalem and its sanctities aimed at establishing a new reality,” noting the continued pursuit of the city’s governor Adnan Ghaith, who has been under open house arrest since August 4, 2022.

The report of the Jerusalem Governorate also mentioned the increasing assaults by settlers and Jewish extremists on Palestinians, while the occupation police are failing to arrest the assailants, documenting 9 attacks including three causing bodily harm.

The Governorate also recorded 18 injuries “resulting from the occupation’s excessive use of force against Jerusalemites,” including live and rubber-coated metal bullets, as well as brutal beatings.

Demolition and Settlement

Regarding the demolition and excavation operations, the Jerusalem Governorate report stated that their number reached 22, including 8 forced self-demolition operations and 12 demolitions carried out by occupation vehicles, in addition to 11 demolition notifications for residential and agricultural structures.

Jerusalemites are forced to self-demolish their properties to avoid heavy fines imposed by the occupation municipality if its vehicles carry out the demolition.

The report also noted the approval of the occupation government for 4 new settlement projects and the initiation of the implementation of 3 projects previously approved.

Since October 7, 2023, Jerusalem neighborhoods inhabited by Palestinians have been subjected to stringent Israeli measures, including the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque, limiting the numbers and ages of those allowed to access.
