The body of colleague Samer Abu Daqqa, who was martyred on Friday evening in an Israeli occupation forces’ strike while covering the aggression on civilians, was interred this morning in Khan Yunis. Abu Daqqa’s mortal remains were escorted by his family members, colleagues, and those who cherished him in the Gaza Strip.
At Abu Daqqa’s grave, reporter Wael Dahdouh gave a poignant testimony about his career, stating that he was among the most dedicated colleagues to his profession and to Al Jazeera, and that “We lost him in a barbaric act (although) we were on an officially approved and directly coordinated mission.” Dahdouh said that the only solace in the departure of the photographer Abu Daqqa is the presence of his colleagues carrying on his noble message and continuing to perform their duties with professionalism and transparency.
The occupation struck the Al Jazeera team in Khan Yunis on Friday, resulting in the martyrdom of photographer Abu Daqqa and the injury of reporter Wael Dahdouh. The occupation prevented ambulances from reaching Samer Abu Daqqa, who bled for hours before ascending as a martyr. It is remembered that colleague Wael Dahdouh lost his wife and some of his children in an Israeli occupation bombing on his family home last October.
