The German Press Agency reported that the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of a French diplomat, who succumbed to injuries sustained during an Israeli strike on Gaza.

The ministry stated in an announcement on Saturday that the official, along with two colleagues and family members, had taken refuge in a colleague's house in the French consulate in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, near the Egyptian border.

The statement mentioned that the house was targeted by Israeli shelling last Wednesday, which resulted in the diplomat's injuries and the death of approximately ten individuals.

The ministry declared that the official, who had been "working for France" since 2002, passed away later, adding that "France condemns the bombing of a residential building that led to the killing of many other civilians."

It continued, "We demand the Israeli authorities to fully clarify the circumstances of this explosion as soon as possible."

Israel initiated a conflict against the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in more than 18,000 casualties – mostly children and women – and tens of thousands of wounded, following an operation on October 7.
