Khartoum- A Sudanese governmental committee revealed its pursuit to obtain a United Nations Security Council resolution classifying the Rapid Support Forces, which have been engaged in combat with the Sudanese army since mid-April, as a terrorist organization.
The "National Committee for War Crimes and Rapid Support Violations" stated that a legal memorandum is being prepared, signed by the General Attorney of the Republic of Sudan, who also serves as the head of the committee. The memorandum encompasses the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces since the beginning of the conflict.
The committee conveyed that the memorandum has been presented to the head of the technical committee responsible for implementing the decisions of the Security Council, aiming to issue a resolution to classify the Rapid Support as a terrorist organization at the UN Security Council.
In its statement, the committee also referred to the seizure of several shares owned by businesses and companies affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces, a measure taken by the committee itself.
In August, the chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decision to establish a committee "for war crimes and the inventory of violations and practices" of the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April, chaired by the Public Prosecutor Khalifa Ahmed Khalifa.
The committee has registered complaints under Articles from 186 to 191 of the Sudanese Penal Code of 1991 amended in 2019, which include crimes against humanity, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing in the region of West Darfur. It has issued arrest warrants for leaders and members of the Rapid Support Forces and those cooperating with them.
