Palestinian Girl Dunya Abu Hassan's Dream to Heal Children Shattered by Israeli Shell at Nasser Hospital

Dunya Abu Hassan, a young Palestinian girl from the Gaza Strip, dreamed of becoming a doctor to treat children one day. However, an Israeli shell fired at her bed in Nasser Hospital, located in Khan Younis in the southern region of the strip, claimed her life and destroyed that dream.

At the age of 13, Dunya was receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital after having her legs amputated due to an airstrike that targeted her family’s house, which resulted in the martyrdom of her parents and two of her siblings.

Dr. Mohammed Zaqout, a medical professional at Nasser Hospital, revealed to Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh's camera that Dunya was asleep in her bed in the maternity ward when a tank shell penetrated the roof of her room, striking her directly in the head. He described the horrific scene where her brain was scattered on the wall.

Dr. Zaqout also pointed out that the Israeli enemy did not warn the hospital nor did they issue any evacuation orders. He confirmed that the clashes between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces were taking place in Khan Younis, not in the area where the hospital is located.

He labeled the act committed by the Israeli army against young Dunya and Nasser Hospital as a "heinous crime," emphasizing that the message is clear: the hospital is now also a target.

Dunya was previously featured in a video where she expressed her dream of becoming a doctor to treat children injured by Israeli aggression against Palestinians.
