Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his readiness on Monday to work with the United States to promote "stable" bilateral relations. This sentiment was shared in light of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, which was welcomed by the leaders of both nations according to Chinese state media reports.
Xi and U.S. President Joe Biden exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion, as reported by the state-run CCTV, stating, "On January 1st, President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden exchanged congratulatory messages marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries."
Xi stated that Beijing and Washington need to "take concrete steps to reinforce the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of Sino-American relations."
CCTV mentioned that the Chinese leader affirmed his readiness "to work with President Biden to continue to push forward Chinese-American relations for the benefit of both China and the United States, their peoples, and to promote peace and development around the world."
Xi emphasized, according to the same source, that "commitments to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation that benefits all, is the correct way for China and the United States to interact."
It is noted that the leaders of both countries had met in San Francisco, United States, in November of last year, where they promised to improve communications between their nations.
Additionally, on New Year's Eve, the Chinese president also exchanged New Year's greetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.
