Reuters reports that an Israeli official stated some forces withdrawn from Gaza will be ready to rotate on the northern border with Lebanon, where Hezbollah and Palestinian factions exchange fire with the Israeli military in solidarity with Gaza.
The Israeli official, who requested anonymity, said, "The situation on the Lebanese front cannot be allowed to continue," adding that "the upcoming six months will be critical."
Israel has warned that if Hezbollah does not back down, a full-scale war looms with Lebanon. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has threatened to push Hezbollah back beyond the Litani River in southern Lebanon through an international settlement based on United Nations Resolution No. 1701.
According to the Israeli Army Radio, Gallant stated that if an international political settlement is unsuccessful, Israel will take military action to push Hezbollah away from the borders.
On Sunday, Hezbollah’s deputy secretary-general Naim Qassem affirmed that Israel "is not in a position to impose its choices."
Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have been intermittently trading fire with the Israeli military since October 8, coinciding with an offensive on Gaza that, as of Sunday, claimed 21,822 martyrs and 56,451 wounded, causing extensive infrastructure damage and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, according to authorities in the sector and the United Nations.
