Qatar Charity has initiated two projects to commemorate the influential roles of the martyred journalists Hamza Dahdouh, son of Wael Dahdouh, Director of Al Jazeera's Gaza bureau, and his colleague Mustafa Thraya.
As part of the "In Reward" program, which honors individuals who have left a humanitarian legacy on their communities and countries, the association plans to complete two health centers within a year. Nawaf Al Hammadi, Assistant CEO for Operations and International Programs at Qatar Charity, made the announcement.
"They Are Not Alone"
In an interview with Al Jazeera Net, Al Hammadi also highlighted that the humanitarian project dedicated to Hamza Dahdouh is meant to send a message to his father and all journalists, affirming that they are not alone.
He added that Wael Dahdouh epitomizes resilience and steadiness in adversity, as he continues to convey the voice of the Palestinian people amidst the daily bombardment, killing, and destruction in the Gaza Strip, despite losing his loved ones.
Al Hammadi stated that the two charity projects are a testament to the noble calling of journalism, and the hardships journalists face during wars are merely a reflection of bringing truth to light. He emphasized Qatar Charity's desire to invite journalist Wael Dahdouh to inaugurate the two charity projects upon completion of their construction.
Al Hammadi indicated that the goal of the two charity projects is to affirm that the message of the journalists in Gaza has reached the entire world.
In Kosovo and Nepal
The Assistant CEO for Operations at Qatar Charity confirmed that the charity project in honor of Hamza Dahdouh will be established in Kosovo, serving more than 5,000 individuals over an area of 275 square meters.
He noted that the building process would begin immediately after the necessary fundraising is complete. The center in Hamza's name will offer basic health services, including emergency first aid, maternal and child health services, reproductive health, medical examinations for various conditions, health education on common diseases, seasonal vaccinations, and dispensing essential medications.
The project aims to improve public health levels, achieve development, reduce maternal mortality rates, decrease child mortality rates under five, and reduce early deaths caused by chronic diseases.
Regarding Mustafa Thraya's project, Al Hammadi explained that a health center bearing his name will be established in Nepal to benefit over 15,000 people over an area of 375 square meters. The center will consist of a surgery room, a dental treatment room with specialized radiology, a pharmacy, and a medical laboratory.
The center will offer foundational health services including emergency first aid, maternal and child health services, reproductive health, and medical examinations for various health conditions.
Widespread Donations
The two projects have witnessed a broad donation campaign from across the Arab world, affirming that the noble message of Wael Dahdouh, his martyred son Hamza, and his martyred friend Mustafa has reached people globally, Al Hammadi stated.
He expressed confidence that those who believe in the message carried by Dahdouh, father and son, and others worldwide will participate in the fundraising campaign, ensuring that their memory remains a testimony to the idea that those who sacrifice for their nation and people will be eternally remembered, even after they pass away.
