Social Media Company “X” Aims to Hire 100 Content Moderators
The social media company “X” (formerly known as Twitter) is working to hire 100 content moderators for a new office in Austin, Texas. The focus of this office will be on combating child exploitation content, a goal the company hopes to achieve by the end of the year, according to Reuters.
The company, owned by Elon Musk, announced the new “Center of Excellence for Trust and Safety” before a hearing in the U.S. Senate on January 31. This center’s work revolves around combating online child sexual exploitation.
The CEO of the company, Linda Yaccarino, is scheduled to testify alongside the CEOs of Meta, Snap, and TikTok, as well as Discord.
The company’s Chief Business Officer, Jo Binrowsh, stated, “We are currently building the team” in reference to the Austin office, adding that the goal of filling the positions by the end of the year depends on finding the right talent, according to Reuters.
Since Musk acquired the company formerly known as Twitter in 2022, the billionaire has faced criticism for his controversial posts and efforts to reform the platform’s content moderation policies.
In a post on Friday, X platform stated that it suspended 12.4 million accounts last year for violating its rules against child sexual exploitation, which increased from 2.3 million accounts suspended in 2022. The platform also added that the new Austin center will help the company combat other harmful content types.
The move to hire significant content moderators and establish a dedicated center for trust and safety reflects the company’s commitment to addressing critical issues related to online safety and content moderation.
