Director Gavin O’Connor will begin shooting the second installment of “The Accountant” in mid-March. The first film, released in 2016, was a massive success, earning $155 million in revenue against a budget of under $44 million.

Following the overwhelming success, audiences clamored for a second installment starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow. The producers and screenwriter Bill Dubuque welcomed the idea.

While there was no talk of a sequel until 2021, “The Accountant” has resurfaced, and production has commenced. The film has been in development for a long period until filmmakers announced their return to the studios for filming.

Multiple Perspectives of the Story

The first installment follows the story of Christian Wolff, a math savant who prefers a life with numbers and works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.

Wolff deals with a modern robotics company to uncover manipulation in its accounts, beginning to unravel the fate of millions of dollars leaked from the company’s account, while the police close in.

Despite the main characters retaining their roles, some will undergo changes. Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Christian Wolff, and Jon Bernthal will continue to play the role of the professional killer’s brother, Braxton, who works for the criminal Lamar Blackburn, played by John Lithgow in the first installment. Anna Kendrick will reprise her role as Dana Cummings, with the potential addition of new stars to the film’s cast.

While the first installment told the story from Christian Wolff’s perspective, the second will tell the story from Braxton’s perspective, potentially downplaying Affleck’s role compared to Bernthal’s.

The Heroes

Director Gavin O’Connor confirms that Braxton’s character, Wolff’s brother, will have a larger role in the sequel, giving Jon Bernthal more screen time.

The director is expected to prepare for the third installment, titled “Rain Man,” involving two characters with numerous similarities, but whose striking contradictions suddenly come to light. This movie serves as a continuation of the first two, bringing the heroes together on a final journey.

According to O’Connor, the second installment will set the stage for the events of the third, containing the same level of excitement and risks that captivated audiences in the first film.
