The Democratic Republic of Congo has advanced to the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations after turning around an early deficit to secure a valuable 3-1 win against Guinea in the quarter-finals of the continental competition.
Mohamed Bayo, Guinea’s striker, opened the scoring with a penalty in the 20th minute, but seven minutes later, Shancel Mbemba equalized for the Democratic Republic of Congo with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area following a corner kick.
Yannick Bolasie then secured the second goal for the Democratic Republic of Congo with a penalty in the 65th minute, while Arthur Masuaku sealed the victory with a third goal eight minutes before the end, from a powerful free-kick from a difficult angle that deceived Guinea’s goalkeeper Ibrahim Koné.
Next Wednesday, the Democratic Republic of Congo will face Ivory Coast, the hos in the semi-finals.
