Barcelona secured their second consecutive victory in the Spanish football league after defeating Alaves 3-1 in the 23rd round of the competition.
This win lifted Barcelona to 50 points, placing them in the third position, trailing second-placed Girona by 6 points. Girona, in the second position, drew 0-0 against Real Sociedad, standing 7 points behind the league leader Real Madrid, who faced Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
On the other hand, Alaves’ score froze at 26 points in the 12th position.
Barcelona took the lead with a goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 22nd minute, followed by Ilkay Gundogan adding a second goal in the 49th minute.
In contrast, Samu Omuwdionu scored the only goal for Alaves in the 51st minute, before Vitor Rochy added the third goal for Barcelona in the 63rd minute.
Moreover, the match witnessed Rochy receiving a red card in the 72nd minute.
Valencia rejoined the path of victories with a hard-fought 2-1 win against the bottom-placed Almeria.
Valencia seemed to be on course for an easy win as they scored two goals in the first half through Hugo Duro (14) and Ukrainian Roman Yaremchuk (23). However, they failed to increase their lead in the second half, as Sergio Aribas found the net for Almeria in the 50th minute.
Valencia’s victory brought their tally to 35 points, positioning them temporarily in the seventh place, awaiting the results of the remaining matches in this round.
On the contrary, Almeria, who has yet to taste victory this season, suffered their 17th loss, remaining at 6 points in the last 20th position, while Granada held Las Palmas to a 1-1 draw.
The new striker for Barcelona, Vitor Rochy, made an impact, scoring, receiving a warning, and then being sent off from the field.
