The military spokesperson for the Houthi Ansar Allah group, Brigadier Yahya Saree, stated that US and UK air forces conducted 48 airstrikes in several Yemeni governorates, confirming that these attacks “will not deter us from supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza and will not pass without a response.”
Saree added in a statement on Sunday morning that the US and UK aggression targeted sites in the governorates of Sana’a, Hodeidah, Taiz, Al-Bayda, Hajjah, and Saada.
On the other hand, Mohammad al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Political Bureau of the Houthi Ansar Allah group, responded to the airstrikes by saying, “We will meet escalation with escalation, and our operations will continue until the aggression on Gaza stops.”
In response, a US-UK statement revealed that airstrikes were carried out on 36 Houthi targets at 13 locations in Yemen, describing the night raids as “the next retaliatory round for the killing of soldiers in Jordan,” before a senior US administration official told CNN that “the strikes against the Houthis are separate from the US response in Iraq and Syria.”
Destruction of Missiles
Additionally, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that they destroyed 6 anti-ship cruise missiles in Yemen, which were prepared for launch at ships in the Red Sea.
CENTCOM, through an X platform statement, asserted that “US forces identified the locations of these missiles in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, and decided that they pose an imminent threat to US Navy ships and commercial vessels in the region.”
They emphasized that this action would protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer.
Earlier on Saturday, CENTCOM announced hitting and downing 12 drones on Friday in Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, over the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In a show of solidarity with Gaza, which has been under Israeli aggression since October 7, supported by the US, the Houthis target ships shipping cargo linked to Israel in the Red Sea with missiles and drones, negatively impacting shipping, trade, and supplies.
According to the Anadolu Agency, tensions in the Red Sea have escalated since the Houthis directly targeted a US ship on January 9 after previously targeting ships owned or operated by Israeli companies or transporting goods to and from Israel as part of their solidarity with Gaza.
