Qatari Medical Institution: Early Breast Cancer Detection Aids 100% Recovery
The Primary Health Care Corporation in Qatar has emphasized the importance of early detection of cancer, especially considering that certain types of cancer have a recovery rate ranging from 90% to 100% if detected early.
The institution explained that early detection of breast cancer contributes to a 100% recovery, while early detection of colorectal cancer aids a 90% recovery.
The call for early cancer detection coincides with the celebration of World Cancer Day, aiming to raise public awareness about the disease and preventive measures to contribute to its prevention and control.
Qatar has taken significant steps to enhance the early detection of various types of cancer and their treatment measures by providing platforms for exchanging expertise and promoting cancer control strategies.
According to the Ministry of Public Health statistics, the most prevalent cancers in Qatar are breast cancer and colorectal cancer. Therefore, the Primary Health Care Corporation focuses on and provides early detection services for these types of cancer.
Dr. Sheikha Sami Abu Sheikha, the Director of Early Detection Programs at the Primary Health Care Corporation, stated that the corporation offers early detection services for several cancers, such as breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer.
Free Screening Service
Furthermore, the Primary Health Care Corporation provides a service to refer suspected cancer patients within 48 hours. This initiative aims to expedite the diagnosis and commencement of appropriate treatment.
Dr. Sheikha Abu Sheikha also highlighted that the Primary Health Care Corporation conducted screenings for 8070 individuals for colorectal cancer and 8358 women for breast cancer last year.
The free screening service is available to citizens and residents. Early detection for breast cancer is offered to women aged between 45 and 69, while early detection for colorectal cancer is conducted for men and women aged between 50 and 74.
Dr. Sheikha Abu Sheikha pointed out that according to Qatar’s National Cancer Registry, the most prevalent cancers in Qatar are breast cancer at a rate of 17.39%, followed by colorectal cancer at 8.87%, and thyroid cancer at 7.45%.
These efforts signify Qatar’s commitment to achieving better healthcare outcomes through proactive cancer detection and intervention.
