The military expert, Major General Fayez Dweiri, stated that there are three possible scenarios for the anticipated Israeli military operation in Rafah City, located in southern Gaza.
Dweiri pointed out that the main challenge facing Israel in this operation is the internally displaced persons in the city, numbering around 1.3 million, requiring the occupying state to evacuate them from the area.
He explained that practically, Israel’s only option is to relocate the displaced persons to the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, as there is no place for them in central and southern Gaza. The government of Benjamin Netanyahu rejects their return to the region.
With Egypt hinting at the suspension of the Camp David Accord if Israel carries out a military operation in Rafah, the occupation forces may attempt to occupy the Philadelphia Axis to completely blockade Gaza, according to Dweiri.
The military expert stated that Israel might signal a military operation in Rafah to gain concessions from the resistance in the ceasefire agreement from the Paris meeting.
Dweiri believes that the Egyptian and American positions are crucial in determining the outcome of this operation as both countries have the leverage to effectively influence Israel.
In conclusion, Dweiri emphasized that Israel cannot carry out a military operation in Rafah without committing a massacre against the displaced persons, imposing significant pressure even on Tel Aviv’s supporters.
