After the announcement of the retirement of the artist Adel Imam from acting and contenting himself with the artistic works he has presented, and enjoying his time with his family and grandchildren during the “Jaw Orad” ceremony on January 20, rumors circulated that the reason behind his sons Rami and Mohamed Adel Imam’s declaration of this decision after their father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, prompting the family to choose not to appear directly in the media.
The absence of the Egyptian artist, nicknamed “The Leader,” from the ceremony held in Riyadh sparked controversy, as he was awarded an exceptional prize in the name of “The Leader of Arab Art,” which is presented only once and to no one else, and was received by his youngest son, the actor Mohamed Imam. His family contented themselves with presenting a short voice message of thanks to the audience.
However, Mohamed Adel Imam denied, on the sidelines of the ceremony and during television statements, that his father is isolated from appearing in the media, confirming that his father is leading a period of rest at his home and receiving visits regularly from his colleagues and fans.
Journalist Mohamed Al-Baz had previously stated in 2022 during his program on Al-Nahar channel that Adel Imam would not return to acting and that he was suffering from some symptoms of Alzheimer’s, which his sons denied at that time. Months before, during an interview with the “El Arafa” program, Al-Baz said that he learned about Adel Imam’s illness through close friends, who later had to deny the news.
Director Rami Adel Imam announced his father’s decision to retire, stating that he had decided to take a break and stay with his grandchildren at home, contenting himself with what he had accomplished in his extensive artistic career.
Adel Imam’s last appearance was during his birthday celebration on May 17 of last year, where he posted a group of private photos with a number of his close friends and colleagues, including Yousra, Lebleba, the artist Khaled Sarhan, his brother, the producer Essam Imam, and a number of other artists.
It was expected that Adel Imam would present his latest work, the film “Al-Wad W Abuho,” in which he would co-star with his youngest son Mohamed Imam, directed by Rami Imam. However, the project was postponed several times and was later announced to be canceled.
Adel Imam’s last work was the series “Valentino” in 2020, written by Ayman Bahgat Amar and directed by Rami Imam, after a career that began in the sixties with minor roles before rising to stardom in the seventies, continuing through consecutive decades to become the holder of the largest number of artistic lead roles in the history of Egyptian art in theater, cinema, and television drama.
