The retired Argentine star Sergio Aguero recalls the critical moments and the details of his struggle during his last match with Barcelona against Deportivo Alaves, which marked the end of his career at Camp Nou.
Aguero fell shortly before the end of the first half in 2021, after complaining of shortness of breath and it was revealed that he was suffering from a heart problem that led to his retirement from football.
During an interview with “Clank Media”, Aguero said, “I felt like I was drowning and there was no pain, just a lot of pressure in my head, and I thought I was physically sick.”
He added, “I jumped for a header and started feeling dizzy. I felt like I was about to faint and wanted to calm down, I wanted to say something but the words wouldn’t come out.”
He continued, “The captain of Alaves held my hand as if to say, stop the game, and he responded by shouting, stop the match. When I calmed down, I felt my heart beating faster.”
“A week ago, this happened to me during training, but it only lasted for 20 seconds.”
The Argentine suffered chest pains and dizziness before being substituted off in the 41st minute and had to receive treatment on the field as he felt like he was going to faint.
Aguero’s (35 years old) irregular heartbeat was diagnosed later.
Aguero had joined the Spanish giant in the summer of 2021 in a free transfer from Manchester City.
Aguero officially announced his retirement from football at Camp Nou in December 2021 during a press conference attended by his former coach Pep Guardiola.
