Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of its founding, the Al Jazeera Media Institute launched a new program titled “Open Coverage” on its digital platforms on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
The “Open Coverage” program is among the educational initiatives published by the institute to enhance media practices at the Arab and regional levels. It is prepared and presented by media expert Professor Beibeh Ould Mehadji, who provides a summary of Al Jazeera’s experience in the field of live television coverage and the standards that this relatively new journalistic genre relies on in the Arab world.

The program comprises of 11 episodes that cover the concept of open coverage, its duration, types, and the requirements for undertaking it. It also discusses execution mechanisms, and the roles of producers, directors, and correspondents, as well as the different teams that work together to ensure successful coverage and achieve its goals. The episodes also range over various topics including television presentation, translation, media language, and other subjects of interest to journalism professionals.
It is worth noting that the institute launched a program earlier in January, which aims to explain and simplify some concepts and terms that are frequently used in the media in certain contexts, such as oligarchy, white elephant, lobbying groups, among others that fall under this framework.
