The Bolivian Foreign Ministry announced its support for the lawsuit filed by South Africa at the International Court of Justice against Israel for alleged genocide crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Bolivia praised the step taken by South Africa in this regard under its commitment to the Genocide Convention, considering it a historical move in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause. The ministry emphasized the necessity of supporting this initiative by the international community.

The ministry pointed out that Bolivia, in partnership with South Africa, Bangladesh, the Comoros, and Djibouti, submitted a lawsuit to the International Criminal Court on November 17th to investigate the situation in the Palestinian territories.

Bolivia is the first Latin American country to announce its support for South Africa's lawsuit.

On Sunday, a spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed Israel's intention to send a former judge of the Israeli Supreme Court, Aharon Barak, to participate in the hearing before the International Court of Justice, which will consider the case brought by South Africa against Israel.

South Africa had filed a lawsuit against Israel before the UN's highest court, accusing it of committing genocide. The court set January 11 and 12 as the dates for the hearings.

Israel denied the accusations made by South Africa, claiming that Hamas is the sole party responsible for the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, with its alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Since October 7th, Israeli forces have waged an ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in 22,835 Palestinian casualties, and injuring another 58,416, most of them children and women. This war has caused massive destruction of infrastructure and led to an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, according to Palestinian and international reports.
