Attendees interrupted a campaign speech by U.S. President Joe Biden at a church in South Carolina, calling for a ceasefire by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Numerous attendees chanted, "We demand a ceasefire now," while one of them shouted, "If you truly care about the lives that were lost here, you should honor them by calling for a ceasefire in Palestine."
As protesters were being escorted out of the Charleston church hall, Biden responded by saying he is working to persuade Israel to scale back its presence in Gaza.
The American President added, "I understand your feelings, and I am working quietly with the Israeli government to get them to reduce the size of their forces and significantly withdraw from Gaza."
The Anadolu Agency, citing sources in the White House, reported that although Biden publicly supports the Israeli government to a great extent, he is urging it behind the scenes to curb its devastating attacks, but so far to no avail.
The French Press Agency noted that Biden strongly supported Israel during its "military operation against Hamas" following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by the resistance on October 7th of last year, which sparked protests at public events and anger within the Democratic Party ranks.
Since October 7th, 2023, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, which has left, according to official Palestinian and international sources, 22,835 dead and 58,416 injured as of Sunday, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
