The American news site Politico quoted informed officials as saying that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned of the potential future capability of Iranian-made drones to penetrate US military air defenses in the Middle East, causing casualties.
The US site added that the intelligence warning came as part of an assessment of the risks facing diplomats and US forces, particularly after the Israeli war on Gaza.
Last January 28, the White House announced the killing of 3 soldiers and the injury of others in a drone attack on US forces stationed at Base “Tower 22” in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border.
The site quoted an informed official stating that the United States took steps to enhance defenses at Base “Tower 22” in Jordan after the Israeli attack on Gaza in October last year.
The official mentioned a security loophole at Base “Tower 22” related to the ability to repel drones because most attacks were occurring in Syria and Iraq.
Since mid-October last year, US forces and the international coalition in Iraq and Syria have faced over 165 attacks, a direct reflection of the Israeli war on the besieged Palestinian sector.
Most of these attacks were claimed by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which includes armed factions close to Iran.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army, with US support, has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, resulting in 27,708 martyrs and 67,147 injured, mostly children and women, according to Palestinian authorities, causing immense destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe according to the United Nations.
