The tragic death of an 18-year-old young man and the hospitalization of two others has prompted authorities to place approximately 100 individuals in quarantine after the detection of a “respiratory infection” outbreak at the General José María Córdova Military School in the capital city of Bogotá, announced the health authorities on Monday.
Reportedly, severe and serious respiratory infections, suspected to be caused by the flu, were identified at the military college. Alongside the deceased student, 290 people have been infected, with 101 exhibiting symptoms and the remaining 98 being quarantined, as stated in the official release.
Three of the infected individuals were subsequently hospitalized, with two of them requiring intensive care. The Colombian military has confirmed the situation, emphasizing the implementation of various measures “to prevent the spread of the disease,” including the establishment of “epidemiological fences, demarcation of border areas, and the application of isolation protocols.”
The municipal authorities in Bogotá disclosed that active searches for cases and isolating potential respiratory symptoms are ongoing. They urged the families of the students to report any “respiratory symptoms” that may appear.
