Former US General: Israel’s Success in Gaza Very Limited
The former commander of the US Central Command, General Frank McKenzie, described Israel’s success in achieving its objectives in Gaza as “very limited” so far.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, McKenzie told the US network CBS, “They set themselves the goal of removing the political and military leadership levels of Hamas when they entered, and they have not succeeded in doing either of them so far.”
McKenzie also pointed out that the major issue, in his opinion, is that “you must have a theory of what it’s going to look like when you’re done,” emphasizing that “you need to have a view to the final state when you start a military campaign because everything is done then in addition to your ability to get to that point.”
The American general also considered that the Israeli occupation is the least preferable option among all the outcomes, saying that the Arab countries will need to support efforts in Gaza post-war.
It is worth mentioning that the number of Israeli army casualties announced has exceeded 560 since the launch of the “Operation Guardian of the Walls” and the start of the war on Gaza on October 7th last year.
The Israeli army stated that its operational transport unit executed more than 1500 operations to evacuate wounded soldiers in the sector, while the “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper reported that the Israeli army has been dealing with thousands of requests from soldiers requesting psychological assistance since the beginning of the war.
