Germany is reportedly considering the delivery of artillery shells to Israel to bolster its ongoing conflict with Hamas. This was revealed by Der Spiegel magazine, which also reported that the relevant departments have fundamentally approved the request from the Israeli government.
The magazine’s report, published on Tuesday, states that in November, Berlin received a request to supply the Israeli military with approximately 10,000 precision-guided 120mm caliber munitions.
Since the armaments industry is unable to deliver the requested precision ammunition immediately, authorities are exploring the option of dispatching shells from the German military’s existing stockpiles for a more immediate response to the demand.
Reuters, conveying the report, mentioned that it was unable to obtain an immediate comment from a spokesperson for the German government about the magazine’s claims.
Continuous Support
It should be noted that Tel Aviv’s ambassador to Berlin, Ron Prosor, last month described Germany as Israel’s best ally in Europe and its second-most important strategic partner after the United States, following Germany’s unconditional and unreserved support for Tel Aviv since the outbreak of its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
German authorities have tried to prevent pro-Palestinian demonstrations following the Israeli aggression on Gaza, citing the fight against anti-Semitism. More than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrations have been banned across the country, and students in Berlin have been prevented from carrying Palestinian scarves and posters bearing Palestinian flags.
In Bavaria, the slogan “From the river to the sea” used in pro-Palestinian demonstrations has been banned on the grounds that it is an anti-Semitic catchphrase.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz was among the first leaders to visit Israel following the conflict known as “Al Aqsa Flood.” Germany has also announced its intention to intervene as a third party at the International Court of Justice in The Hague to support Israel in a genocide case brought against it by South Africa.
