South Africa’s national football team secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Cape Verde in a penalty shootout. The original and extra time ended with a 0-0 draw before Bafana Bafana clinched the win with a 2-1 penalty shootout victory, thanks to the outstanding performance of their goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, who blocked four penalties.

During the match, Cape Verde came close to securing a win and a spot in the semi-finals in the first minute of injury time with a solo effort from substitute Jelson Tavares. However, South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a brilliant save, deflecting the shot off the post and back into his hands.

In the second half of extra time, Cape Verde’s goalkeeper and captain, FozĂ©inia, also made a crucial save from close range, denying South Africa’s substitute, Mihlali Mayambela.

South Africa’s national team will now face Nigeria in the upcoming Wednesday match.

On the same day, the Democratic Republic of the Congo will play against Ivory Coast, who secured a 2-1 victory over Mali the previous Saturday.
