The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced on Monday that Qatar has released 8 former Indian Navy officers after the death sentences issued against them last year were dropped.

In December, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that a Qatari court had overturned the death sentences of 8 former Indian naval officers who were arrested last year on charges of spying for Israel.

In a statement on Monday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed appreciation for the Emir of Qatar’s decision to allow the release of these individuals and their return to India. It was mentioned that 8 of the accused have returned to India.

The eight Indian citizens were arrested in 2022. They were working on a submarine project with a private company for the Qatari authorities.
