Inter Milan Boosts Serie A Lead with Thrilling Win over Juventus
Inter Milan secured a 1-0 victory over their rival Juventus at the San Siro Stadium thanks to an own goal in the first half and impressive defensive displays in the second half. This win on Sunday further solidified their position at the top of the Italian football league.
Federico Chiesa of Juventus inadvertently scored the only goal of the match, putting the ball into his own net in the 37th minute to give Inter Milan the lead. Inter sent a cross from the right into the penalty area, which Chiesa failed to clear, resulting in an own goal that he will undoubtedly want to forget.
Hakan Calhanoglu came close to doubling Inter’s lead in the 57th minute, but his shot struck the left post, denying him the opportunity to extend the lead.
Chiesa nearly made amends for his earlier mistake with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 67th minute, narrowly missing the target.
Inter responded with a dangerous attempt as Nicolo Barella received a cross from the left inside the box, evaded defenders, and unleashed a strong shot that was skillfully saved by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the 69th minute.
Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny also denied a dangerous attempt from Marco Arnautovic from inside the area in the 87th minute.
With this win, Inter Milan increased their points tally to 57 from 22 matches, maintaining a lead of 4 points over second-placed Juventus, who have played 23 matches.
