The Counter-Terrorism Service in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region announced the downing of an armed drone that was targeting the international coalition forces combating the Islamic State organization and the US forces stationed near Erbil Airport on Thursday evening. This incident marks the second attack within a 24-hour period.

A statement issued by the region's Counter-Terrorism Service indicated that the armed drone, launched by "illegitimate militias," aimed at the military base of the international coalition at Erbil International Airport on Thursday evening.

The Counter-Terrorism Service had also reported a similar attack on Wednesday evening, for which the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility.

US officials have reported more than 100 attacks against American interests in Iraq and Syria since mid-October of the previous year. These attacks followed several days after the onset of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Most of these attacks were adopted by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which includes armed factions allied with Iran and connected to the Popular Mobilization Forces.

The United States has around 2,500 military personnel in Iraq and about 900 in Syria as part of the fight against the Islamic State within the international coalition, which was formed in 2014.
