Fernando Marman and Luis Har stated that they cooked for the family that detained them, but they mostly lived on homemade bread and white cheese, causing them to lose a significant amount of weight.
They explained that they did not see sunlight during the 129 days of their detention and told the hosting family that they were from Argentina, engaging in conversations about football with them.
This was recounted by Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper – in a joint report by Adir Yankov, Yael Chishanover, and Yuval Zaitoun, mentioning at the beginning that Fernando Simon Marman and Luis Har returned in good condition to the country despite being detained for 129 days by a family in Rafah.
Israeli Special Forces entered the second floor of the building amid a gunfire exchange and under the cover of airstrikes, according to the report, successfully extracting the detainees.
Relatives of the former detainees stated that the men recently received “some kind of medication” and were not physically abused but returned “extremely frail,” being kept uninformed of the news during their detention, except for one occasion when they managed to watch a broadcast on Al Jazeera, remaining confined in the same place in the recent weeks.
The families of the two men mentioned that they were asleep when the Israeli forces entered, and before realizing they were in Israeli hands, they were convinced they would die there.
They highlighted that their rescue came as a complete surprise, with Fernando’s niece stating, “I see them well. They had slowly started to adapt to what happened to them in the last four months.”
The reunification of the former detainees with their families – as the newspaper claims – took place at Sheba Hospital on Monday morning.
Eidan Biegerano, Luis’ son-in-law, mentioned that the men are looking forward to grilling some meat on the fire, as Argentinians do, while Clara Marman, who was previously released, stated, “I was with them in a tunnel before I was released.”
