Israeli Newspaper: Biden Administration Crafting Major Deal to Stop Gaza War
According to “Israel Today”, an Israeli newspaper, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is currently working on drafting a major regional deal aimed at halting the conflict in the Gaza Strip and reducing tensions in the area.
The newspaper cited an unnamed Israeli source who stated that the deal includes a ceasefire, the establishment of a new system in Gaza, normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab world, and the release of prisoners.
In a report published on Thursday, the source confirmed to the newspaper that the deal comprises several principles intended to achieve long-term stability as part of the post-war reality.
The paper pointed out that the deal is part of what U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken referred to at the Davos Forum earlier this week, where he indicated that Israel needs to make tough decisions.
However, the newspaper mentioned that the deal is still in its early stages, and it is not yet clear to what extent it has been formulated, or whether it will lead to an agreement that ends the war and initiates a political process to resolve the conflict.
So far, there has been no official comment from the involved parties regarding the disclosures made in the Israeli newspaper’s report.
Israeli Rejection
This discourse about a potential deal follows the announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday that he has conveyed to the United States his opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state in any post-war scenario for Gaza, insisting on continuing the conflict in the region until victory over Hamas is achieved, a stance contrary to U.S. wishes.
The United States had called on Israel to reduce its offensive in Gaza, stating that the establishment of a Palestinian state should be part of the post-conflict phase, a proposal Netanyahu explicitly rejected, demanding full Israeli control over the sector.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, resulting in the martyrdom of 24,620 Palestinians and wounding 61,830, causing an unparalleled humanitarian disaster in the area and the displacement of more than 85% (around 1.9 million people) of its inhabitants, as reported by Palestinian authorities.
