Israel's New Foreign Minister Declares a Global War Against Iran

Israel Katz, the newly appointed Israeli Foreign Minister, has stated that his country is engaged in what he calls a "third world war" against Iran, accusing Tehran of actively pursuing the development of nuclear weapons.

Speaking during the handover of his ministerial duties from his predecessor, Eli Cohen, Katz's remarks were reported by the "Israel 24 News" website on Wednesday. He implied that Israel is at the forefront of a global conflict against Iran and what he described as "extreme Islam."

"The front that Iran has built in this region isn't solely against Israel. It's a third world war with today's tools, and we are at the vanguard of the global scene," Katz said.

The new Foreign Minister reaffirmed that Tehran is more determined than ever in its quest to acquire nuclear weapons. Katz also highlighted his priorities in office, with the return of detainees in Gaza to their homes at the forefront. Israel currently estimates the number of these prisoners at about 130.

Israeli media had reported that this ministerial change comes as a part of a prior arrangement between the ministers concerning the exchange of portfolio responsibilities, to be completed after one year since the formation of the current government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Last Sunday, the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" reported that the government had approved the activation of a rotation agreement between the Foreign Minister (Cohen) and the Energy Minister (Katz).

With the current government formed back in December 2022, it was agreed upon that Cohen would hold the foreign ministry for one year, followed by a two-year period for Katz. In the final fourth year, Cohen is set to return to the foreign ministry, contingent on the government's continued tenure.
