Key Developments on Day 86 of Israeli Assault on Gaza

On Day 86 of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, the Israeli bombardment continues, particularly targeting Khan Yunis. The Government press office announced a new toll of martyrs and the injured. Meanwhile, the Israeli military declared the discharge of brigades and injuries among soldiers amid ongoing Palestinian resistance targeting occupation forces and vehicles.

The Israeli Army Radio stated that the military decided to release five combat brigates operating in Gaza, including the reserve brigades 551 and 14, along with three training brigades.

The "Times of Israel" reported that the five discharged brigades would return to assist in revitalizing the Israeli economy.

According to the Israeli website "Walla", due to developments in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, it's expected that additional forces will be discharged next week.

The Israeli military informed that the combat unit from the Paratroopers Brigade moved from the north of the Gaza Strip and joined forces in the vicinity of Khan Yunis.

On the other hand, the Haaretz newspaper reported that 13 Israeli soldiers were injured in the last 24 hours. Al Jazeera's correspondent mentioned that a number of wounded Israeli soldiers were transferred from the Gaza Strip to Israeli hospitals through military ambulances.

The Maariv newspaper quoted the director of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, stating that the hospital treated over 3,500 wounded since October 7th, a "number we've never seen before".

The Walla website noted that senior reserve officers demanded the Chief of Staff to immediately start an investigation into the incidents of October 7th.

Maariv also reported the Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen as saying that the government bears responsibility for the October 7th attack, and that an inquiry committee must be formed to hold those negligent accountable.

Cohen added that discussions on settlement in the Gaza Strip are premature and that restoring security comes first. He further stated, "There will be no Hamas, we will retrieve the hostages, and we will take security control over Gaza, ensuring the (Palestinian) authority is under scrutiny."

Gaza Residents Displacement

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich told Army Radio that encouragement should be given for Gaza's residents to immigrate, as they live in distress and poverty. He added that Israelis are willing to return to Gaza because it is a beautiful place and they will transform the desert into a thriving area.

In today's events, the Israeli Prime Minister's office approved the rotation between Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Energy Minister Yisrael Katz.

Resistance Operations

Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, announced that its fighters managed to detonate an explosive device inside a tunnel with Israeli soldiers in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, resulting in one death and an injury. Saraya al-Quds also confirmed sniping an Israeli soldier in the Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza city.

The Israeli military – today on Sunday – declared the death of an officer and a soldier, in battles in the north and center of the Gaza Strip.

Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas movement, stated they targeted an Israeli "D9" bulldozer with a "Yasin 105" projectile north of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Al-Qassam Brigades also claimed targeting Israeli special forces east of the Tuffah neighborhood with explosive devices, projectiles, and engaging in firefights with machine guns.

Additionally, al-Qassam and 'Al-Mujahideen Brigades' struck an Israeli Apache helicopter with a "SAM 7" missile in Gaza's southern Zaytoun neighborhood.

The Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, stated that "there will be no prisoner exchange deals with the enemy, unless the aggression stops, and their forces fully withdraw from the sector."

Victim Toll

The government media office in Gaza reported that it recorded 1,825 Israeli massacres, and 28,822 martyrs and missing persons, including 9,100 children over the 86 days of Israeli aggression on the sector.

The office added in a statement that the number of injured rose to 56,451, while the number of displaced people reached 1.8 million people.

Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that Israeli warplanes conducted a series of airstrikes on Maghazi camp in central Gaza, and that a civil defense medic was injured along with his colleague in Israeli shelling on the Nusseirat camp in the central sector.

The correspondent also mentioned that 10 individuals were injured in Israeli artillery shelling targeting a school sheltering displaced people in Khan Yunis camp south of the Gaza Strip.

Reporting from Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the correspondent confirmed the martyrdom of 35 Palestinians in ongoing Israeli airstrikes since Sunday dawn.

The Israeli military shelled a school sheltering displaced individuals in Deir al-Balah in the center of the Gaza Strip, resulting in a martyr and several injuries.

Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that two girls were martyred in Israeli shelling around the European Hospital southeast of Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, while 48 Palestinians were martyred in Israeli shelling on the Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza City.

The correspondent stated that 20 Palestinians were martyred in Israeli shelling on Al-Aqsa University in Gaza.

It’s also noted that the former Minister of Awqaf and previous Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher, Sheikh Yousef Salameh, was martyred in an Israeli shelling in the central area of the Gaza Strip.

According to a medical source to Al Jazeera, 64 martyrs and 186 injured fell in Israeli shelling on homes in the central region of the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.

Furthermore, The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics said in a statement that this year’s number of martyrs is the highest in Palestine since the Nakba of 1948.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation urged the International Court of Justice to respond promptly to the lawsuit submitted by South Africa to the international court, to put an end to the genocide committed by Israeli occupation forces in Palestinian territories.

West Bank Events

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that clashes occurred between Palestinian resistance fighters and Israeli occupation forces in Nur Shams camp east of Tulkarm in the West Bank.

It was noted that three Palestinians were injured in bombing by an Israeli drone on the camp, and a second drone bombed a site near the schools' area inside the camp, resulting in injuries.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said that two young men were injured by shrapnel from an Israeli drone inside the camp, one of them seriously.

The correspondent mentioned that clashes between Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces renewed at the entrance of Tulkarm camp, during the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from Nur Shams camp.

Earlier reports indicated an Israeli occupation siege on Nur Shams camp in Tulkarm, amid continuous clashes and explosions.

The correspondent also reported the raid of Israeli forces on the Fawar camp south of Hebron in the West Bank, noting that sniper units were positioned on rooftops overlooking the camp.

Previously, the correspondent had reported that the occupation forces besieged Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital and Zakat Hospital in Tulkarm, following their incursion into the city from its western sector.

Lebanon Front

Al Jazeera's correspondent stated that an Israeli drone bombed a house on the outskirts of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, and another Israeli drone bombed the vicinity of Maroun al-Ras, also in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military claimed that its air force attacked infrastructure and military sites of Hezbollah in the village of Ramiyeh in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli Channel 12 reported two anti-tank missiles were fired from southern Lebanon towards an Israeli military site in Upper Galilee.

Hezbollah declared that its fighters targeted the Hanita site in Israel with appropriate weapons achieving a direct hit.

Hezbollah announced the death of one of its members in the south among confrontations with Israeli forces, bringing its number of deaths to 134 since October 8th.

In the same context, Naim Qassem, Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah, affirmed that Israel cannot bring settlers back to the north "while we are in the heart of battle," insisting that Tel Aviv must stop the war on Gaza in order to halt hostilities in Lebanon.
