Today, the Amiri Diwan of Kuwait announced the passing of the Emir of the State, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at the age of 86.
In a statement, the Amiri Diwan expressed, “With great sadness and sorrow, we announce to the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and friendly peoples of the world the death of the late, may God have mercy on him, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, who passed away this Saturday afternoon.”
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was admitted to the hospital at the end of November due to an acute health setback.
Sheikh Nawaf was named Crown Prince in 2006 before succeeding his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died in September of that year at the age of 91.
Sheikh Nawaf was born in 1937 and is the fifth son of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the former Emir who led Kuwait from 1921 until his death in 1950.
Following the death of Sheikh Nawaf, the Kuwaiti Cabinet declared, “We hail Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the Emir of Kuwait.”
The seamless transition in leadership and the stability of the Kuwaiti government remain a focus as the country mourns the loss of Emir Sheikh Nawaf and welcomes the new Emir. The declaration by the Cabinet ensures a continuity of governance and adherence to the Kuwaiti constitution during this period of change.
