Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid has called on the ministers of the "Camp" party in the emergency government to withdraw from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, labeling it as a rescue government for Netanyahu and not for Israel, he said.
During a session of his party's faction in the Knesset, Lapid criticized the ministers for being unfit to lead in wartime and stated that Netanyahu is not qualified to lead the country.
"This is a government where the Security Cabinet has become an arena for toxic attacks on the military, a government that continues to disgracefully redirect billions to coalition parties amidst war, a government without a political action plan or a definition of a strategic objective for the war," Lapid continued.
He further stated that the current government is neither a unity government nor an emergency government seeking to save Israel, but rather it aims to save Netanyahu.
In a related context, Israeli Minister for Social Equality Amichai Chikli has announced his resignation from Netanyahu's government as part of a plan to reduce government budget expenditures.
His resignation comes amidst reports of the Prime Minister formulating a plan to reduce the number of ministries in his government, aiming to shut them down in order to redirect their budgets to cover the costs of the war in the Gaza Strip.
According to Israeli media, the cutbacks and ministry closures are part of an effort to avoid dismantling the emergency government if the general budget is not approved in its current form.
The cost-cutting plan also aims to avoid a potential coalition crisis ahead of the anticipated general budget discussion in the upcoming government session.
