Journalistic reports have indicated that the recently released iOS 17.2.1 update for iPhone devices, aimed at solving the issue of short battery life, has led to complications in connecting to cellular networks.
Numerous complaints were cataloged by users on the Apple Support Forum, expressing dissatisfaction due to inability to connect to their cellular networks.
According to the Apple Support Forum, many iPhone users reported that after installing the iOS 17.2.1 update on their devices, they were unable to connect to their network providers due to some error.
The issue significantly affects iPhone devices, disrupting users from making phone calls or accessing the internet via cellular data, which is one of the phone's fundamental functions.
One user wrote, "I use T-Mobile as my service provider. I spoke with their technical support and took my phone into the store. They replaced the SIM card twice; first with an eSIM and then with a brand-new card at the store. There is no profile in the VPN. However, there is still no cellular connection, and the internet is weak on the phone. Most of the time I get a message saying that I need to activate cellular data with my service provider."
Apple had launched the iOS 17.2.1 update for iPhones to address some bugs, including fixing a battery drain issue in some iPhone models.
To try and solve the connection issue, several iPhone users have proposed various solutions, such as resetting the network settings, performing a factory reset — with the first solution preserving all files and applications while the second erases all phone contents.
A third solution involves deleting any VPN profiles. Some users have indicated that after removing a VPN profile, the cellular network error disappeared.
If none of the aforementioned solutions prove helpful, users may have to wait until Apple releases iOS 17.2.2 or iOS 17.3 at the beginning of 2024.
