Liverpool decisively defeated their guests West Ham United with a 5-1 victory at Anfield Road, securing their place among the last four teams in the English Football League (EFL) Cup semifinals.
The Reds only managed a single goal in the first half, which came from the Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in the 28th minute.
In the second half, the visiting side from London collapsed, conceding four more goals. Curtis Jones found the net twice (56 and 84 minutes), with Cody Gakpo (71) and Mohamed Salah (82) adding to the tally.
Jarrod Bowen managed to score a consolation goal for West Ham in the 77th minute.
Chelsea, Fulham, and Middlesbrough had also previously qualified for the EFL Cup semifinals.
The semifinal draw has resulted in two well-matched fixtures:
- Liverpool vs. Fulham.
- Chelsea vs. Middlesbrough.
The first legs of the semifinals are scheduled for January 8th, while the return fixtures will take place on January 22nd.
