The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday that 7 Palestinians were martyred and 14 others, including medical staff and displaced persons, were injured by Israeli army snipers at Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra stated in a press release that Israeli army snipers besieged the hospital and opened fire on anyone moving in its vicinity, confirming that they killed 7 Palestinians and injured 14 medical staff and displaced persons inside the hospital grounds.
Al-Qudra further emphasized that the suspended ceilings in the accommodation and operation departments collapsed due to the explosions surrounding the Nasser Medical Complex.
He also pointed out that food supplies had run out for the medical staff, patients, and displaced persons at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis.
Al-Qudra mentioned that sewage water inundated the emergency department, hindering the work of the staff at the Nasser Medical Complex, and stressed the need for protection for the technical teams to operate within the hospital grounds to repair the sewage system.
UN Concern
Yesterday, Sunday, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed deep concern about the situation inside and around the Nasser Medical Complex surrounded by Israeli forces.
Ghebreyesus stated on the platform that “We are deeply concerned about the safety of patients and health workers due to the escalation of hostilities around the hospital.”
According to witnesses, the Israeli army targeted the buildings of the complex and its courtyards with live ammunition, resulting in the martyrdom of Palestinians and the serious injury of another within the hospital’s departments and courtyards.
Since January 22, the Israeli army has been carrying out intense aerial and artillery bombardments on Khan Yunis and the surrounding hospitals, with ground advances of its vehicles in the southern and western areas of the city, prompting thousands of Palestinians to flee the city.
