Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to shirk responsibility for any of the mistakes that have occurred in the past period, while his political adversaries, including some of his allies both inside and outside the country, intensify their pressure on him.
When asked by a journalist whether he takes responsibility for the failure that occurred on the 7th of October, Netanyahu responded by saying that he is fighting against Hamas, while journalists are fighting him.
Despite his long experience in political maneuvering, the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reports that Netanyahu is facing a “storm” following the demand by the State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman for all Israeli military and security leaders to provide him with confidential information and documents as part of an investigation into the events of October 7th and earlier to determine who is responsible for the Israeli failure.
According to a report by Moaz al-Khatib for Al Jazeera, some members of Netanyahu’s Likud party and the ruling coalition have begun to attack him, including the extreme National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who criticized the way the war was managed and the approval of the entry of unexamined medicines into the Gaza Strip.
However, the most severe criticism came from the War Council, where former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot stated that Netanyahu is the primary person responsible for all that occurred on October 7th last year.
At the same time, Netanyahu faces accusations from the families of Israeli captives of obstructing efforts to release their relatives to retain his position of power.
Additionally, there is a growing sense of frustration from the United States toward the Prime Minister, as they increasingly believe that he is managing the war for his personal interests, with their words weighing more heavily against him.
