The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) has announced that the estimated Palestinian population at the end of 2023 stood at approximately 14.63 million, highlighting that the year witnessed the highest number of martyrs since the Nakba in 1948.
According to a statement released by the bureau on Sunday, there are 7.55 million Palestinians living in the State of Palestine, with over a third residing in the Gaza Strip. This figure is supplemented by another 1.75 million Palestinians in the territories of 1948, and approximately 6.56 million in Arab countries, in addition to roughly 772,000 in foreign countries.
The bureau pointed out that 2023 recorded the highest casualty rate among Palestinians since the establishment of Israel in 1948. Since the beginning of the year, the number of martyrs in Palestine reached 22,404, with 22,141 of them slain since October 7th of the previous year, and of these, 98% were in the Gaza Strip.
Israel has been waging a destructive war on Gaza since October 7th, which has resulted in a catastrophic humanitarian disaster unprecedented in scale. By the last day of the current year, 21,822 Palestinians were martyred, and 56,451 were injured, causing immense destruction to infrastructure, according to the authorities in the sector and the United Nations.
