While the United States prepares for the possibility of choosing once again between the current President Joe Biden and the former President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin received a question from a journalist about whom Russia prefers to win in the potential showdown between the two men, and the answer may be surprising to some.
The question came after scathing criticisms directed by Biden towards Putin, whereas Trump had previously expressed admiration for the Kremlin leader on several occasions.
Moreover, Biden’s administration has recently led in providing military assistance to Ukraine in its ongoing war against Russia for the past two years.
In contrast, the Republican candidate faced severe criticism after recently stating that he would encourage Russia to attack any country in the NATO alliance, as long as that country did not pay what it owes to support the alliance.
However, Putin’s response favored Biden, as he answered the journalist’s question by preferring Biden and attributing it to him being a person “more experienced and whose actions can be predicted; he is from the old school.”
Nevertheless, Putin added that he is prepared to deal with the winner of the upcoming American presidential elections scheduled for November, seizing the opportunity to criticize Washington’s foreign policy during Biden’s term, saying, “What we need to examine is the political stance, and the current administration’s stance is harmful to the maximum and wrong.”
Age and Mental Competence
In a comment on criticisms related to Biden’s age, who will be 82 years old just weeks after the elections, Putin said, “When I met Mr. Biden three years ago, people were talking at the time about his incapacity, but I did not see anything of the sort,” in an apparent reference to a summit held in Geneva.
American opinion polls show that voters have genuine concerns about Biden’s age. The issue of the mental competence of the American president worsened after two incidents in which he confused current European leaders with their deceased predecessors.
The White House had to strongly defend the president last week after a report by a special investigator described him as an “elderly man with a weak memory.” Biden later responded angrily to the accusation but exacerbated the problem later by once again mixing up the presidents of Egypt and Mexico.
Interestingly, Trump (77 years old) faced a similar incident recently when he also confused his rival for the Republican Party nomination, Nikki Haley, with the former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
