Qatar has expressed its desire to host the Arab Cup for football for a second consecutive time in December 2025, as revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports yesterday, who affirmed his country’s capability of hosting the Olympics.
Qatar had hosted the previous edition in December 2021 with the participation of 16 teams, where Algeria clinched the title against Tunisia, in a mini version of the 2022 World Cup.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmad Al Thani, the Qatari Minister of Sports and Youth, stated in an interview with beIN Sports channel, “We seek to host a new edition of the Arab Cup in December 2025 under the umbrella of FIFA and the Arab Union, and Qatar has announced its desire to host.”
“We hope for a swift decision in coordination with FIFA because the region needs such tournaments. Playing under FIFA’s umbrella is one of the key reasons for its success, and countries are eager to participate,” added the Minister of Sports and Youth.
Furthermore, the former president of the Qatari Football Association mentioned, “Our national team swept all collective and individual awards in the 2023 Asia Cup and reached the 14th game without a loss in the continental finals, confirming that the players were responsible.”
After a year of hosting the Arab Cup, Qatar hosted the World Cup finals at the end of 2022 with 32 teams, being the most successful tournament in history according to FIFA. The Asian Cup, which concluded last Saturday, saw the “Al-Annabi” team clinch the title for the second consecutive time.
