The Russian newspaper Izvestia reported that American journalist Tucker Carlson admitted, after his interview with Vladimir Putin, that he was shocked by the Russian President’s willingness to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine.
During the conversation, Putin made it clear that Moscow would not take the first step towards dialogue after the negotiations stalled in Istanbul in March 2022.
Experts believe that the interview could change perspectives on the war, providing the American public with a different version of events. Carlson pointed out that most Americans are unaware of what is happening in Russia and Ukraine, so the interview is expected to help answer all questions. The meeting has already garnered over 100 million views, causing significant tension in American society, as per the Russian newspaper.
60 Questions
Izvestia mentioned that during the interview, which lasted over two hours, President Putin answered around 60 questions, most of which were related to Ukraine and Western relations. Putin, for the first time for a Western audience, provided a detailed historical context, substantiating his statements with archives and documents.
The newspaper stated that Russia has repeatedly suggested seeking peaceful solutions to the issues in Ukraine, with the failure to implement the Minsk agreements, signed after the events of 2014 as part of the peaceful settlement plan in Donbass, being the trigger for the war.
During the meeting, Vladimir Putin reiterated his stance, stating that “Russia did not start the war in 2022, it aims to end the war initiated by Ukraine in 2014.” However, he expressed readiness for a peaceful resolution, which Carlson found surprising.
Conflict Resolution
Regarding a question about why Putin does not contact his American counterpart Joe Biden to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, Putin said he had nothing to discuss with the US President at the moment. Stopping the US arms supplies to Kyiv would end the conflict in a few weeks, according to Putin.
According to the political analyst and former advisor to the US Congress James Gatras, the interview may force Congress members to reconsider the validity of arms supplies and funding allocation to Ukraine.
Izvestia explained that currently, NATO is attempting to scare its members with a false Russian threat, which could escalate into a world war, only to extract more money from taxpayers for confronting Russia in Ukrainian military operations. The aim of these intimidations is to weaken Russia as much as possible, as per Putin.
However, Putin believes that the West fears economically powerful China much more than Russia because China has huge capabilities and is currently the world’s largest economy in terms of purchasing power.
