Samsung Electronics, the Korean tech giant, is set to enhance its upcoming Galaxy S24 series of phones with a groundbreaking feature that will enable real-time translation of phone calls, according to a report by Nikkei Asia.
The phone calls will be translated via the devices' built-in default phone application, utilizing the processors within the devices and relying on Samsung's proprietary artificial intelligence model named "Gaus".
This innovative feature will be introduced in the voice calls when the flagship Galaxy S24 phones are announced, which is scheduled for the current January. The mechanism will allow for instantaneous, real-time translation without any delay, enabling users to communicate effortlessly, transcending language barriers without the need for an intermediary.
Initially, the service will support the highest number of users and will start by supporting English and Spanish, with plans to add Korean, Japanese, and other languages subsequently.
As reported by the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Asia, the AI-based call translation feature will function with Samsung phones, and it is also set to support smartphones from other companies. During a call, both participants will have the opportunity to hear the audio translation instantly and see the translation displayed on the screen in Galaxy S24 devices.
Samsung introduced its artificial intelligence technology for language processing at its developer conference in November last year, seeking opportunities to integrate it into its range of products.
