Sheikh Tamim Participates in Qatar’s 13th National Sports Day
This morning, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, took part in the activities of the “National Sports Day.” This event is an annual tradition and an unprecedented initiative unique to Qatar, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of sports and their role in community life, making them an essential part of daily life for individuals.
Sheikh Tamim engaged in rowing on Banana Island on the east coast of the country as part of promoting the significance of participating in various sports and encouraging society to prioritize physical fitness.
The 13th edition of Qatar’s National Sports Day was held under the theme “The Choice is Yours” across the country to emphasize the importance of dedicating a day to sports for the nation.
This year’s edition features 250 activities organized by government and non-governmental entities in public parks and sports facilities, distributed comprehensively and evenly nationwide.
The theme of this year’s edition, “The Choice is Yours,” aims to underline the practice of sports stemming from awareness and understanding that it is the optimal choice to confront modern challenges, combat chronic diseases caused by lack of physical activity, and rely on awareness to build a lifestyle of exercise.
Since early morning hours, the sports activities were open to everyone, with areas such as the Doha Corniche, Aspire, The Pearl, Qatar Foundation, Lusail, Mushereib, Katara turning into extensive sports arenas.
Citizens and residents, especially children, eagerly attended from early morning to enjoy various sports activities, entertainment shows, and reserve their spots early, as Doha transformed into a vast sports arena.
The participants in the National Sports Day celebrations depicted a beautiful sports scene on Tuesday in various parts of the country, turning Doha into a large sports field accommodating individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
All state institutions make an annual commitment to participate in the National Sports Day festivities, turning Qatar into a vast playground where tens of thousands of citizens and residents engage in various sports activities.
Qatar’s infrastructure supports sports activities with pedestrian paths, cycling routes, numerous sports facilities, 150 public parks, facilities, beaches, and an increased number of licenses for private sector sports activities to 1216.
The significance of organizing the National Sports Day in Qatar annually is to elevate the status of sports due to its representation of moral and humanitarian values, numerous health benefits, awareness among citizens and residents about the importance of sports in daily life, and encouraging them to engage in sports throughout the year.
Qatar celebrated the National Sports Day for the first time in February 2012 after the issuance of Amiri Decree No. 80 of 2011, designating the second Tuesday of February each year as a national sports day.
