A delegation of Turkish parliament members conducted a meeting with representatives from civil society organizations in Paris to discuss ways to combat discrimination against the Muslim and Turkish communities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place on Sunday at the Turkish Consulate General in Paris, with members of the Turkish Parliament’s Human Rights Investigation Committee in attendance.
During the meeting, the civil society organization representatives addressed the discriminatory incidents faced by Muslims and Turks, along with challenges encountered in practicing their religious rituals and accessing education. Participants also discussed anti-Muslim rhetoric targeted at mosques in France over the past year.
In statements to Anadolu Agency after the meeting, committee chair and member of the ruling Justice and Development Party, deputy Derya Yanık, underscored the importance of Turkey in monitoring practices against Muslims, considering them as Islamophobic. She clarified that the committee is diligently working to contribute to resolving the issues faced by the Turkish and Muslim communities in France.
The Human Rights Investigation Committee of the Turkish Parliament is comprised of deputies from the ruling party as well as opposition parties.
