The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Monday the martyrdom of two Palestinian journalists due to an Israeli airstrike on the city of Rafah and the town of Jabaliya in the south and north of the Gaza Strip. This raises the toll of martyr journalists to 126 since October 7 last year.
The office stated in a release that the number of journalist martyrs has increased to 126 journalists since the start of the genocidal war on Gaza, following the martyrdom of the journalists Alaa Hassan Al-Hams from the Agency of Sand for News and other media sites, and Angam Ahmed Edwan from the Libyan February Channel.
The statement emphasized that the journalists Al-Hams and Edwan were martyred as a result of the continuous shelling and targeting by the Israeli occupation of the homes of civilians in the areas of Rafah and Jabaliya.
Palestinian and international media have repeatedly warned against the Israeli army’s targeting of media crews, calling for their protection, amid Israeli disregard for these calls.
The Israeli occupation army launched a series of fierce raids on different areas in Rafah on Sunday night and Monday morning, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of dozens of Palestinians, including children and women, in clear Israeli disregard for international warnings about the dangers of targeting the overcrowded city of refugees.
Rafah is the last haven for displaced persons in the ravaged sector, and is home to more than 1.4 million Palestinians, including 1.3 million displaced persons from other governorates.
Since the start of its ground operation in the Gaza Strip on October 27, Israel has asked residents to head from the north and center of the sector to its south, claiming it is a safe area. However, it has not been spared from the bombing of homes, cars, and hospitals.
Following the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year, which has left tens of thousands of civilian casualties, Israel faces accusations of committing genocide in front of the International Court of Justice for the first time in its history.
