Today, Ukraine showcased what has been termed as President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Peace Plan” at the Davos resort in Switzerland, ahead of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum which commences on Monday.
Ministers from the Kyiv government are gathering with representatives from approximately 80 countries to discuss the future of Ukraine, nearly two years after the outbreak of the Russian war on the country.
Zelensky’s 10-point peace plan, first introduced in late 2022, calls for the withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine, including the Crimean Peninsula, and proposes the trial of war crimes perpetrators, accountability for leadership involved in the war, compensation payouts, and the provision of security guarantees.
Russia has rejected the plan and was not invited to the prior meetings, the latest of which was held in Malta in October of the last year.
It is not expected that the Ukrainian President will personally attend the fourth round of talks, although he will be in town to participate in the World Economic Forum at an undetermined time later this week.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian President dismissed the idea of a ceasefire, stating that such a move would only serve Moscow’s interests, giving the Kremlin time to replenish its weapon supplies.
