War in Gaza: Does Humanitarian Law Have a Meaning?

Several days ago, I came across a news report about the arrest and investigation of an individual after a video showing them firing at an animal went viral on social media platforms. The news highlighted the penalties for violating animal welfare laws and mentioned that the Ministry of Environment had previously announced punishments for those who torture animals or maltreat them through beating, starvation, or any other method contrary to humanity.

Animal rights are undoubtedly a noble cause and an ethical principle that we must all respect. Many countries have special laws to protect animals and raise public awareness about the importance of animal rights. Through these efforts, we can ensure animals are treated well and with kindness.

However, what about humans, the greatest of God's creation and His vicegerents on Earth?

As I read the news, I recalled a statement by the Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in the early days of the war on Gaza: "I have ordered a complete blockade on Gaza. There will be no electricity or food," further adding, "We are fighting human animals and will act accordingly."

It is entirely unacceptable to use oppressive language and provocative statements to justify violence. Although all international conventions in the world, including their odious entity, support laws related to the rights of domestic and wild animals, considering cruelty towards them a crime punishable by law, let alone towards humans.

Open Prison

Gaza, with a population of about 2.3 million people, is known as the largest open prison in the world. Israel has held them in an air, land and sea blockade for more than 17 years. During these years, Gazans have suffered greatly and continue to do so, particularly these days with the war waged by the occupying state against the civilian population to completely destroy the Gaza Strip and displace its people.

Such conditions cannot be endured by anyone, regardless of their gender, color or race. Yet most Western governments justify their unlimited support for the occupying state and rationalize its crimes against humanity, including killing civilians, imposing a total blockade on the Gaza Strip, and launching random attacks on homes, schools, mosques, hospitals, and cutting off of water, electricity, and fuel supplies, among other methods of destruction.

These governments also completely ignore the Geneva Conventions on the protection of civilians in times of war, which prohibit in Article 3 of the first chapter regarding general provisions any assaults on life and physical safety, especially murder in all its forms, mutilation, cruel treatment, torture, taking of hostages, and insults to personal dignity.

Apartheid

Some consider Israel a "state of apartheid," but this term is insufficient to describe the nature of Zionism; because "apartheid" implies racial discrimination based on race or color.

The term originates from the apartheid policy in South Africa, where white colonists oppressed the indigenous black majority who owned the land. Believing their race was superior to other races, they deemed that they should not enjoy the same rights.

To maintain their power, this minority prevented blacks from buying land outside the areas they were forced to live in, from using public transportation, and from frequenting the same clubs and shops. Racial insanity even extended to segregating public parks, sidewalks, and bathrooms.

Apartheid is a phenomenon opposed to humanity and its values, but compared to Zionism, its crime rate is less. Moreover, the apartheid system does not deny the humanity of other races but affirms the superiority of its race compared to others. In contrast, the Zionist entity believes that God has chosen them over all people on Earth to be his special chosen people, and thus, they do not see other races as human, but as creatures destined to serve them.

Hardened Hearts

Many innocent children bleed to death in Gaza. Instead of mothers watching their children play and grow, they are forced to lay soil over their bodies, a heart-wrenching sight, unless you are as hard-hearted as the Zionists and their supporters.

The anti-Israel protests carried out by citizens around the world, including a large number of Jews opposed to Zionism to end the bloody war in Gaza, are testament to the crescendo of global hatred against the Zionist regime and its backers.

We have seen conscious nations across the world rise up in anger over what is happening to the children of Gaza, demanding an end to this bloody farce. This signifies that the conscious conscience cannot tolerate such heinous crimes. Undoubtedly, those who cherish freedom will inevitably fight tyranny and injustice and rebel against tyrants.

And surely, the day will come when the leaders of countries who have supported the war crimes committed by this colonial regime, whose hands are stained with the blood of innocent women and children of Gaza, will be held accountable for their atrocious crimes.
