Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi Hernández, has signaled his willingness to waive his entitled severance pay in the last year of his contract if club president Joan Laporta decides to dismiss him this summer.

Doubts loom over Xavi’s future as the technical head of Barcelona following a recent defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

The Blaugrana suffered a 4-1 thrashing in the Super Cup final against Real Madrid, complicating Xavi Hernández’s task and casting further uncertainty over his future leadership at the helm of the team.

Barcelona currently sits in fourth place in the La Liga standings and is still licking its wounds after enduring its worst defeat at the hands of Los Blancos in years.

The Spanish newspaper “AS” reported that Xavi remains convinced of his ability to turn things around as Barcelona continues to compete in La Liga and the Champions League.

The 43-year-old former star refuses to give up but understands that he will be let go at the end of the season if things remain as they are at Camp Nou.

A Kind Gesture

While many fans are frustrated with Xavi due to the team’s current performance, he could ultimately leave behind a well-regarded impression should he choose not to create a financial burden for the debt-laden club by foregoing his remaining salary upon dismissal.

“AS” confirmed that Xavi is not interested in harming Barcelona upon his departure, aiming to prevent additional financial strain on the club by waiving his contractual rights to remaining compensation.

Xavi’s annual salary is reported to be $4.24 million (3.9 million euros).

Xavi took over Barcelona’s coaching position in November 2021, succeeding his fellow club legend Ronald Koeman, with a contract extending until June 2025.

Xavi has led Barcelona in 119 matches, achieving 74 victories, 24 losses, and 21 draws.

During Xavi’s tenure, Barcelona has won both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup last year.
